A new ear piercing can easily become infected. Find out how to properly care for your child's new piercing.

  • To prevent a pierced ear infection, take your child to an experienced and qualified piercer.
  • Clean your child's piercing regularly with warm water and mild soap and dry the area thoroughly.
  • Do not use rubbing alcohol, antibacterial cleansers or hydrogen peroxide.
  • Signs of a pierced ear infection may include pain, swelling and yellow discharge from the piercing site.
